Luis F. Sotomayor – Success Story

Luis F. Sotomayor

“I will give 100% to accomplish my goals to obtain a better job and reach success,”

The words above are what Luis Sotomayor said to Pathstone-Puerto Rico staff, and he has made that statement come true. In May, we learned that Luis has been promoted to supervisor and now recruits for Valley Crest Landscape, where we refer many NFJP participants. Luis can relate to farmworkers’ struggles to attain their goals: He worked 4 hours/day on a sugarcane farm and desired something more. Luis attended a job fair and met PathStone staff who explained our farmworker services. Luis enrolled, expressed his wish to relocate to the US mainland for employment, and took an ARCI test to help him decide what kind of work he would enjoy. Luis interviewed and was hired by Valley Crest Landscape; he was excited to be moving to Virginia. PathStone provided safety gear and the employer paid for his flight. Luis began full time work at 10.50/hour, and moved into a stable home.  His promotion boosted his wages. Luis is very grateful for the help received from our Arecibo Region staff.  We are all very proud of his success.
